Former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has spoken exclusively to Tribal Football about the disorder at Real Madrid.

Madrid's 2-0 defeat to Barcelona in last weekend's Clasico saw their biggest rivals crowned as LaLiga champions and confirmed that the club will go trophyless for two campaigns in a row for the first time in 20 years.

A season to forget

The Spanish giants are clearly fractured as top players fight in training, arguably their best player in Kylian Mbappe is booed and hated by fans, and president Florentino Perez refuses to step down.

Speaking to Tribal Football via Betpack, Silvestre opened up on the saga at Madrid and how the passion shown towards the dire situation could be a good sign.

“If nothing was happening after such a poor season in terms of trophies, that would be a worry. So, we’ve seen that there is still life and people that care, and they're having a go at each other because they don't like the way things are going.

“They just need to sort it out and start with proper team spirit next season and pull in the same direction.

“It's complete chaos, they lost to Barca and yeah, it's a season to forget for them. I mean, you have to realie what happened and take the lessons. In terms of trophies, zero.”

Mourinho would be one loss away from drama

As Madrid hunt for solutions, attention has turned to their former boss Jose Mourinho who, despite his success, has not won a league title in 11 years and has been sacked or thrown out in five of his last six jobs.

Mourinho won LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup during his time in charge of Madrid from 2010-13 and is clearly the favourite to take over from Alvaro Arbeloa in the coming months.

Final talks over a second spell in charge are now under way according to reports as his strong relationship with Perez helps push negotiations along. Turning this Madrid side around would be a Herculean task but if anyone can do it, it's Mourinho.

Silvestre spoke on the legendary manager who he believes would be constantly be on the brink of being let go or releasing more tension amongst a group of already frustrated players.

"It's a strange one, but Jose Mourinho knows the club and Florentino Perez knows him. It would definitely fit what they need at the moment, because there are a lot of issues on and off the pitch.

“He's got the charisma and the understanding of what Real Madrid is about. However, it would be interesting to see what happened between him and Vinicius Junior after what he said, which was out of order when he was on the sideline for the Benfica-Real Madrid game.

“You need a strong character to manage this team and to face the pressure from the fans and the media. You are only one defeat away from a scandal or a crisis.

“I don't think there would be any issue there with Mourinho and Kylian Mbappe, because ultimately they both want to win trophies. That's why they want to perform at Madrid. That's why they joined Madrid, for the expectation, but also the desire to perform on the bigger stage with that pressure.

“That's why they thrive, so I think they would find common ground and work well together.”
