In terrible news for Militao and Real Madrid, the Brazilian centre-back has suffered a muscle tear affecting the proximal tendon in his left leg, meaning he could be sidelined for several months.

Medical tests have left no doubt about the severity of the injury sustained by the Brazilian centre-back during Real's loss to Celta Vigo on Sunday, December 7th.

"After tests carried out on our player Eder Militao by the Medical Services of Real Madrid, he has been diagnosed with a tear in the biceps femoris of his left leg, affecting the proximal tendon. Awaiting further developments."

How long will Militao be out?

The medical report doesn’t specify a recovery time, as is usually the case, but these types of muscle injuries, especially when the tendon or muscle insertion is involved, are more complex to heal, so rehabilitation tends to take longer. In fact, Militao could miss the next three or four months of competition.

The defender’s discomfort was already evident on his face and during the initial examination by the medical staff who attended to him and helped him off the pitch against Celta.

With Militao out, defensive problems are piling up for Xabi Alonso, who already has Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dani Carvajal, Dean Huijsen, Ferland Mendy, and David Alaba in the treatment room.

For the next league match, Alvaro Carreras and Fran Garcia will also be unavailable due to suspensions after being sent off in the last game. Antonio Rudiger and Raul Asencio are the only defenders expected to be available for the upcoming fixture against Alaves on Sunday, December 14th.
