There is no shortage of great sport to watch this weekend, with tons of important football happening alongside tennis, golf and more. But what should you watch?

Here are the main events our news editors are making time for this weekend:

Saturday, May 17th

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City - 17:30 CET

The FA Cup final remains one of the most anticipated fixtures on the football calendar, and the storylines behind this year’s final make it a must-see game.

Crystal Palace are in their second FA Cup final of the decade after losing in extra time to Manchester United in the 2016 final. That turned into a heartbreaking day for a club searching for their maiden major trophy.

However, Palace have a chance against the blue side of Manchester to right some wrongs this Saturday afternoon. A win against last year's finalists and the most successful club in England over the last decade would provide the greatest moment in the club’s history.

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will try to play the role of party poopers and despite having a poor season by their lofty standards, they come into the final in good form.

Other than a shock setback last weekend when they drew 0-0 at home to Southampton, City have looked more like their usual selves lately after going nine games unbeaten. Erling Haaland being back fit and available to start the final is a big boost too, as they have missed their top scorer.

Palace will think this is the perfect chance to play City when they aren’t at their unstoppable best. City will think that Palace are easier opponents than their Manchester rivals were last season, and will be keen to end a disappointing season on a high.

Whatever happens on Saturday afternoon, the FA Cup final is never an occasion to miss.

Liga Portugal final day - 19:00 CET

Liga Portugal will have one of the most dramatic final days in recent memory on Saturday. The title, all of the European places, and all of the relegation spots are still to be decided.

Following their draw last week, Sporting CP and Benfica enter the round level on points, the former having the advantage via head-to-head. This means that Benfica, who are away to Sporting Braga, have to claim more points than their Lisbon rivals if they are to dethrone them. Otherwise, the trophy will go to Sporting, who are at home to Vitoria Guimaraes, for a second year running.

While it is almost a certainty that Porto will claim third spot and the automatic Europa League place, they still need a point versus Nacional to avoid potentially being pipped by Braga. Fortunately for Os Dragoes, the only way that happens is if they lose and Braga win by a large margin.

The final European place is also up for grabs. Vitoria are currently fifth, ahead of Santa Clara due to head-to-head. Similar to Benfica, Santa Clara must grab more points at Farense than Vitoria do in the capital, otherwise it will be the same five Portuguese teams in Europe for the second year running.

Speaking of Farense, they are in a relegation dogfight with Estrela, AVS, and Boavista. It is currently Farense and Boavista in the bottom two, with AVS in the playoff spot.

Estrela cannot be directly relegated on Saturday, but could partake in the playoffs. A miracle will be needed for the former league champions, Boavista, to avoid dropping to the second tier for next season.

PGA Championship - all weekend

The second major of the year in the golfing world is now well underway, with surprise package Jhonattan Vegas currently perched atop the PGA Championship leaderboard at a supremely impressive -8, at the time of writing.

Ahead of the tournament, a lot of the hype was around Masters champion Rory McIlroy and whether he could pull off the incredible feat of winning all four majors of the year. However, he is currently well off the lead, and he needs a big few days to thrust himself back into contention.

Interestingly, at this moment in time, the top of the leaderboard isn't star-studded, and a big reason for that is the really difficult conditions. In the weeks leading up to the tournament, Quail Hollow was drenched with rain, and clearly a lot of the world's best are struggling with that.

As a result, players like Matthieu Pavon, Ryan Gerard and Luke Donald are towards the summit.

But there are some big names lurking. Former world number five and six-time PGA Tour winner Max Homa has rediscovered some of his magic after a shocking loss of form, sitting at -5. Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick are also in good positions.

There is still so much time left of the tournament, though, so there is sure to be loads more twists and turns, with some players toppling down the leaderboard and others charging through the field. Who will get their hands on the Wanamaker Trophy?

Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz - 12:00 CET

Tennis fans have been given the Italian Open they were hoping for, because for the first time in seven months, the two best players in the men's game will be doing battle.

Carlos Alcaraz has looked excellent in the clay-court season so far, winning 14 of his 15 matches and claiming impressive wins over Alex De Minaur, Jack Draper and Lorenzo Musetti. After a fairly disappointing start to 2025, the reigning French Open champion looks to be getting back to his best again on the red stuff.

However, Jannik Sinner has been playing even better in Rome on his return from his doping ban. Given he hadn't been in action for months and hadn't played his best tennis on clay in the past, you'd have been forgiven for expecting him to struggle on home turf.

However, the world number one produced one of his best performances ever in his demolition of Madrid champion Casper Ruud and is looking as formidable as ever.

If he can beat Alcaraz on a surface that the Spaniard has been stronger on up until this point, that will be a real statement, one that tells the world he's ready to dominate the Tour more than ever now that he's back.

For Alcaraz, meanwhile, a win would reassure him after a difficult few months that he can make this an era of the 'Big Two' at the least.

With a vibrant atmosphere added to the equation - with the home crowd hoping to see a man from their country win the tournament for the first time since 1976 - this could well be the best match of 2025 thus far.

Inter vs Lazio - 20:45 CET

What a season it has been for Inter. They are into the Champions League final after a game for the ages against Barcelona, and after last week’s 2-0 win over Torino, they are still well in the Serie A title race with two games to go.

Simone Inzaghi’s side sit just one point behind league leaders Napoli, but they come up against a Lazio side whose aspirations of Champions League football next season are still very much alive.

Inter have beaten their Roman rivals twice already this season - once in the league and once in the cup. They will thus be in a confident mood heading into Sunday’s encounter.

However, they know a loss and a win for Napoli against the relegation-threatened Parma would spell the end of their Scudetto dreams and hand the title to the Partenopei.

Both games kick off simultaneously, adding to the spicy drama. At this stage of the campaign, performances and style go out of the window - it’s all about the result. It’s one not to miss.

Denver Nuggets vs Oklahoma City Thunder - 21:30 CET

Following their 119-107 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday, the Denver Nuggets are the only team since 2019 to play seven games in the first two rounds for a third time.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic have proven to everyone in this series why they are the top two runaway candidates for this year’s Most Valuable Player Award, as both lead the Western Conference in scoring in these playoffs heading into Game 7.

But if we’re going by pure experience, the Nuggets outweigh the Thunder heavily in that regard. In the past seven years, nobody has played in more Game 7s than the Nuggets (in which they have gone 4-2).

Head coach David Adelman is also coming off his first Game 7 win from the previous round against the Clippers. Meanwhile, Thunder head coach Mark Diagnault has never coached in a game seven, something ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins said “Is stressful as hell.”

The Minnesota Timberwolves will have to wait just a little bit longer to see if they will be facing the NBA’s No. 1 seed in the Thunder or their Western Conference semi-final opponents from last year in the Nuggets.
