A surprise was in store for FC Porto's presentation: Luuk de Jong was announced as the Dragons' new number 26, minutes before the pre-season friendly against Atletico Madrid.
The 24-year-old Dutch striker arrives from PSV, where he spent the last three seasons after returning from FC Barcelona. In the 2024/25 season, De Jong scored 18 goals in 47 matches. A year earlier, he was the top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie with 29 goals - a title he shared with current Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis.
PSV legend
De Jong won consecutive Eredivisie titles with PSV, for whom he wore the captain's armband, and left as a free agent earlier this summer.
The experienced striker was linked to clubs from Saudi Arabia and Serie A outfit Fiorentina, but eventually chose Porto, where former Ajax boss Francesco Farioli is now the manager.
De Jong adds a level of competition to Porto's forward line, where Spanish phenom Samu and Turkish talent Deniz Gül currently occupy the striker position.

Luuk de Jong began his career at De Graafschap, after which he played for FC Twente, Borussia Monchengladbach, Newcastle, Sevilla, and Barcelona. He is a six-time Dutch champion and has won one Europa League with Sevilla.
He has played for the Netherlands 39 times and was active at EURO 2012 and EURO 2020, as well as the 2022 World Cup.
