Samu, the 21-year-old Spanish international forward for FC Porto, is believed to have sustained a right knee cruciate ligament injury during Monday’s Classico against Sporting, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

According to Record, Samu suffered a right knee cruciate ligament injury in the Classico (1-1). After complaining twice during the first half, he was substituted at halftime, with Deniz Gul coming on in his place.

The FC Porto squad had Tuesday off, but the club’s medical staff used the day to reassess the team’s injury cases. According to the same source, the exact severity of Samu’s injury will determine his recovery time, which has not yet been announced.

Even so, there is a real possibility that Samu will miss the rest of the season, and surgery has not been ruled out.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation has already been informed of the situation, meaning Samu’s dream of playing at the 2026 World Cup could be in jeopardy.

Besides Samu, Jakub Kiwior and Martim Fernandes also picked up injuries during the match against Sporting and underwent further medical tests on Tuesday.
