Dithejane, who was courted by several clubs in the South African Betway Premiership, joins compatriot Mbekezeli Mbokazi at the Major League Soccer club.
“We’ve been scouting him for a while, and he’s of the most highly regarded talents in South Africa right now,” Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter told MIR97 Media.
“He’s a very dynamic winger, he can change the game. He’s a young player who needs development, but really great attitude on the pitch, really good speed and one-on-one ability.
“He has a lot of attributes that make him an exciting winger, and that’s what we wanted to add.”
Dithejane can switch easily between right-back and right wing, and had been in scintillating form for Galaxy this season, including scoring a hat-trick against Chippa United.
He made his South Africa debut against Malawi in the COSAFA Cup in 2023, and has six caps in all, having also featured in Bafana Bafana’s 2025 COSAFA Cup campaign.
He was reportedly on the wanted list of Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, from who he joined Galaxy in 2023 following an acrimonious exit from Naturena.
He has made 63 appearances for Galaxy, including 45 starts, and scored seven goals.
“We think we have a really good attack, and we wanted to bolster that,” Berhalter said. “We know our schedule is packed next year, we need alternatives, and we think with, Jo Bamba, Phil (Zinckernagel), Maren (Haile-Selassie), Chris Mueller, and Puso now, we have a really good winger group.”
Bafana coach Hugo Broos caused ire last month when he criticised defender Mbokazi for making the move to the MLS, suggesting he should have looked at a European club instead.
