Since arriving for a bargain-of-the-decade fee of just £2.5 million from Hibernian in 2018, the Scottish international has risen through the ranks under manager Unai Emery and established himself as a key leader in the side.
Interest in the Scottish international was rejected during the summer transfer window, and reports earlier this month suggested that he was in line for a new contract to lock him down for the foreseeable.
Now, as announced by the club, he has signed a deal until 2028 in what is a momentous move.
"Aston Villa is delighted to announce that Club Captain, John McGinn, has signed a new contract with the club.
"McGinn has been a stalwart in the Villa line-up since joining from Hibernian in 2019 and has been an integral part of the club's journey from the Championship to the Champions League.
"With over 80 caps for Scotland to his name, he also sits fifth on his country's list of all-time goalscorers."
He is now edging closer to appearing in next year’s World Cup with his country at the age of 31, as well as leading Villa to another European spot, which is more than possible under Emery this season.
McGinn has made over 300 appearances for the side and is a cult hero amongst supporters. Just 35 players before the Scot have reached the milestone as he establishes himself as a club legend.
