Harry Kane made more goalscoring history on Friday night - and the possibility of him returning to England to chase down the Premier League’s all-time record is also still very much alive.

Kane scored twice in Bayern Munich’s 4-0 win over Werder Bremen to bring him up to 100 goals for the German champions.

It makes him the fastest player in history to reach a century for a club in Europe’s top five leagues, doing so in just 104 matches since his 2023 move from Tottenham.

It is a huge moment, yet we exclusively revealed last weekend, Kane’s situation in Germany is being closely monitored by some of the biggest clubs in the game.

His contract contains a break clause that could see him move on for around £54m at the end of this season, and Tottenham are understood to have priority if he does choose to return.

Kane has always been open-minded about the prospect of going back. Particularly as he is on 213 Premier League goals - putting him as the second highest ever scorer in the division behind Alan Shearer, who has 260.

Sources suggest a return would appeal if Spurs qualify for the Champions League for 2026/27 - and the prospect would become even more enticing if fresh investment arrives at the club.

While the club have rejected a takeover approach from Brooklyn Earick’s consortium, our understanding is that the situation is not over yet.

Sources suggest major new funding could yet be in place by next year.

Barcelona are also an option if he prefers not to return to England.

Kane insists he is happy at Bayern - and there is little doubt he will configure to bang in goals.

Yet the prospect of unfinished business in the Premier League is a scenario that cannot be ignored.
