Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored for the fourth successive Premier League (PL) match as the striker’s late header salvaged a 1-1 draw for Leeds United at Brentford.

Having slipped into the bottom half of the PL after back-to-back defeats, Brentford knew a positive response was needed against 17th-placed Leeds. It was the visitors, however, who created the best chance in a cagey opening half-hour, with Noah Okafor seeing an angled effort saved by Caoimhín Kelleher.

The Bees thought they’d been awarded a penalty shortly after when Dango Ouattara was dragged down by Gabriel Gudmundsson in the box, only for VAR to intervene and rule the Burkinabé winger was in an offside position.

Both teams continued to probe in the final third, as Keane Lewis-Potter had a strike palmed away by Lucas Perri, while at the other end, Okafor skewed a close-range volley wide.

Having lost each of their last nine top-flight fixtures in London, Daniel Farke’s side looked determined to up the ante at the start of the second period, with Ao Tanaka and Calvert-Lewin missing the target with a pair of half-chances.

The visitors remained on the front foot with time ticking into the final half-hour, but it was Brentford who finally broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, as Jordan Henderson tucked home from Rico Henry’s cut-back to net his first Bees goal.

Undeterred by that setback, Leeds went in pursuit of an immediate response, and it duly arrived with eight minutes remaining, when Wilfried Gnonto’s inch-perfect delivery was glanced into the far corner by the in-form Calvert-Lewin.

That set up a fascinating finale in West London, but despite a late chance for Ouattara, both sides ultimately settled for a share of the spoils, extending Leeds’ impressive H2H record to just one defeat in seven meetings (W2, D4).
