Manchester City are showing clear ambition to reclaim the Premier League title this season, and that could yet lead them to attempt a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

City are currently leading the race to sign Antoine Semenyo, but strengthening their defensive line also remains a priority.

Sources indicate that several top-level players are under consideration, and if City are unable to secure any of their preferred targets, they are unlikely to pursue alternatives simply for the sake of it.

Crystal Palace’s Guehi is understood to be a prime target as his contract enters its final stages.

The defender is believed to prefer waiting until the end of the season to move clubs, when he would be available on a free transfer.

Guehi came close to joining Liverpool last summer, and he is now open to a potential move abroad, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich all having been linked. Arne Slot’s side do remain in the picture, though.

Manchester City could test his stance, however, at a time when they believe they have a strong opportunity to regain the Premier League title after losing it to Liverpool last season.

Arsenal currently sit top of the table, but City have closed the gap and appear well placed to challenge for the crown.

There is an internal belief that one more elite defensive option could prove decisive in the season.

At present, no formal contact has been made towards Palace regarding a move for Guehi, but it remains a possibility City may choose to explore.
