Entertainment was at a high as the Premier League operated a midweek schedule in the run-up to the festive period.

Arsenal kept their five-point lead at the top with a relaxed 2-0 victory over Brentford, while Manchester City survived a chaotic rally from Fulham to win 5-4.

Elsewhere, Liverpool were held 1-1 at home by Sunderland, Leeds surprised Chelsea 3-1 and Tottenham fought from two deficits to draw 2-2 at Newcastle.

Here, using Flashscore's player ratings system, it's time to see who made our midweek edition of the Team of the Week.

Goalkeeper

Robin Roefs (Sunderland) - 7.6

Robin Roefs played his part in helping Sunderland earn an excellent point on their trip to Liverpool with four saves in the match.

The Dutchman nearly set up a stunning winner for the Black Cats, with his brilliantly drilled pass setting Wilson Isidor in on goal.

Defenders

Ben White (Arsenal) - 8.6

Handed a first start since the opening day of the season, Ben White made his mark for Arsenal in the win over Brentford.

He provided the assist for the Gunners' opener, clipping a ball into the box for Mikel Merino to head home.

Cristian Romero (Tottenham) - 9.1

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero went through all the emotions as he single-handedly grabbed his side a draw at Newcastle with two rare goals.

The Argentina international drew Spurs level with a fantastic diving header, then equalised again deep into second-half stoppage time with an overhead kick to steal a point.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace) - 8.7

Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi also put in a captain's display as the Eagles edged out Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor.

Guehi notched a great assist for the lone goal from Daniel Munoz, spraying an accurate pass towards the far post.

The England man also won all 10 of the duels he contested and matched that effort with 10 clearances.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (West Ham) - 8.3

Former Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka enjoyed his return to Old Trafford as his West Ham side dug deep to earn a well-fought 1-1 draw.

Wan-Bissaka was excellent defensively, winning 11 duels and making five clearances, including a smart one on the line to keep the Hammers in the game.

Midfielders

Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa) - 8.0

The energetic Morgan Rogers provided a rangy assist for Ollie Watkins in Villa's eventual 4-3 victory over Brighton to continue his strong run of form.

His long pass sprung Watkins away and through on goal as he netted Villa's equaliser in a high-scoring affair.

Soungoutou Magassa (West Ham) - 8.1

Wan-Bissaka's West Ham teammate Soungoutou Magassa also had a fine game, capping off a combative display with a well-taken goal.

The 22-year-old Frenchman won 11 duels and made four tackles while netting his side's equaliser with an accurate effort into the corner.

Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham) - 8.1

Fulham's Samuel Chukwueze caused City plenty of problems coming off the bench with two goals in a frenzied second half.

Introduced into the action at half-time, the Nigerian cut Fulham's deficit with a half-volley into the corner and notched his second a few minutes later in similar fashion from the other side of the box.

Forwards

Phil Foden (Manchester City) - 9.1

Another two goals from Phil Foden helped City just about get over the line in a crazy encounter at Fulham.

Foden bent in a lovely strike from the right for his first and doubled his tally early in the second half by smashing it at the near post.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) - 8.5

The formidable Erling Haaland netted his 100th Premier League goal clinically, but it was his all-around performance which earns him marks.

The Norwegian also came away from the match with two assists, with his defence-splitting pass for Tijjani Reijnders catching the eye.

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) - 8.4

Ollie Watkins grabbed his first goals of the season to help Villa romp back and secure a good-value win against Brighton.

He used his striker's instinct to tap home the first, but his second was impressive as he took down Rogers' long pass, then drilled his shot into the corner.
