Former Ajax and Inter star Wesley Sneijder has opened up on Liverpool boss Arne Slot, who he thinks needs to adapt or fail this season.

Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool fell to a 3-0 loss to Manchester City at the weekend and are now eight points adrift of early pace-setters Arsenal, who, despite their 2-2 draw with Sunderland, look to be cruising to their first league title since 2003.

After losses to Galatasaray, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Crystal Palace, Slot’s side bounced back against Frankfurt, Aston Villa and Real Madrid. After much criticism, fans were back on the side of Slot as the side kept two clean sheets on the bounce, which signalled a resurgence.

However, their loss to City has now turned fickle fans back against the Dutchman, who many believe could be sacked if results do not improve.

'Come on, stop this'

Now, speaking to AdventureGamers.com, Wesley Sneijder thinks the criticism is unjust and that Slot should be given time to turn the tide.

“It's funny. A couple of months ago, he was the king of Liverpool. He was the coach to make you forget about all the previous coaches, even Jurgen Klopp," Sneijder said.

"After four weeks, they are saying he wants to turn Liverpool into Feyenoord; he’s not winning games in the last minute anymore. He’s out of luck.

“Come on. Stop this. He's still a great coach. What he did there was amazing in the first season. He has needed to adapt as well, and he adapted very quickly and brought his own style to the club and to the team.”

The Reds succumbed to their fifth defeat in 11 Premier League games with goals from Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez, and Jeremy Doku pushing the club back to eighth place.

As the side enter the international break, Slot must find a solution and adapt like Sneijder suggests, or wave his title hopes goodbye.
