Hearts manager Derek McInnes believes having several players return from injury will be akin to an "April transfer window" as his side bid for a first Scottish title in more than 60 years.

The Edinburgh club are top of the Scottish Premiership table, the Jambos four points clear of second-placed Rangers and six ahead of champions Celtic, who have a game in hand.

Hearts are at the summit despite being without several first-choice players, including captain Lawrence Shankland and midfielder Cammy Devlin.

But Oisin McEntee and Beni Baningime could be fit for Saturday's clash with Aberdeen, while Shankland and Devlin are among those expected back ahead of the closing fixtures of the campaign, when the league splits in two.

"It's easy to feel sorry for yourself," said McInnes. "It's easy to think 'why us?, 'why me?' and 'why are we getting these key players out?', but I think it's unrealistic to think you can get through a full campaign.

"It's a league for a reason, you have to get through all these different tests and challenges, and there's no doubt we're getting challenged at the minute at such an important time."

He added: "It will almost feel like a transfer window opening up for us in April when we get a few back, so you take the good with the bad as you go through it."

Hearts were last crowned champions of Scotland in 1960.

But they are now bidding to become the first club other than Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers to win the Scottish title since Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen in 1985.

"I know that we're capable of winning games and I know that with 10 games to go there's still a lot that can happen and we've just really got to concentrate on ourselves, whatever people say," McInnes said.
