AGF and FC Midtjylland on Sunday afternoon continued their two-horse race for the Danish Superliga title when they recorded very comfortable wins against Viborg and Silkeborg in the penultimate match before the Championship playoffs.

AGF - Viborg

In Aarhus, the home side came out determined to make up for their disappointing draw away against Fredericia last weekend and dominated the opening stages of the match as Viborg were twice forced to save on the line.

The AGF goalshow then began after half an hour’s play when Kevin Yakob received the ball on the edge of the box before unleashing a thunderous curling drive into the top right-hand corner to send the local crowd into raptures.

The same crowd was then silenced ten minutes into the second half when Viborg made the most of a period where they had seized the momentum to restore parity when Dorian Junior poked home a great cross from Charlie Nouck

But Viborg had no time to celebrate as the home side immediately struck back when Yakob scored his second of the night when he half-volleyed the ball into the net inside the box.

This gave AGF all the belief they needed, and just three minutes later, Kristian Arnstad finished off a superb attack move with a long-distance drive to make it 3-1.

A crazy sequence of goals continued when Arnstad scored his second of the night after 63 minutes when he converted a penalty after Frederik Emmery had been brought down in the box by Mikkel Bach Londal. Gift Links then rounded off a glorious night for the home side when he scored with a superb drive from the edge of the box via the crossbar before Osman Addo reduced the deficit for the visitors in injury time.

Silkeborg - FC Midtjylland

Second from bottom, Silkeborg weren't left many chances before the home tie against FC Midtjylland as they were without a win for seven successive matches. Silkeborg, however, seemed to have the dangerous FC Midtjylland attack fairly under control until the 30-minute mark, when Aral Şimşir gave the visitors the lead after a stunning drive from a tight angle outside the box.

Four minutes later, Tonni Adamsen could have equalized, but he shot straight at Elías Ólafsson when he really should have done better. Instead, Mike Tullberg’s side doubled the lead when Simsir turned provider with a long delivery for Deni Castillo, who wasted no time rifling the ball into the roof of the net.

With little less than an hour left to play, the visitors put the game effectively out of reach when Simsir scored his second of the afternoon as he curled a cross into the box, and as Mikael Uhre failed to get a touch to it, the ball sailed into the net beyond the reach of Silkeborg keeper Nicolai Larsen.

With 16 minutes left, FC Midtjylland rounded off a perfect performance when Brazilian striker Junior Brumado, who scored a hat trick last weekend in Odense, directed another delivery from Simsir into the net.
