FC Copenhagen have sacked sport director Sune Smith-Nielsen after a dismal domestic league campaign that have left them in danger of missing out on the Superliga Championship playoffs

FC Copenhagen have sacked sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen with immediate effect, says the club on its website on Monday morning.

"Unfortunately, we must say that during this season we have neither seen the necessary development nor the expected results. The arrangements made have not met our expectations, and on this basis we have assessed that this was not the right match for the future", says Chairman of the Board of Parken Sport & Entertainment, Henrik Mogelmose.

FC Copenhagen, who did not manage to qualify for the playoffs in the Champions League, are currently in seventh spot in the Danish Superliga with the risk of missing out on the Championship playoffs before the final round of the regular season.
