FC Midtjylland boost midfield options with experienced Bundesliga player

FC Midtjylland have signed the 27-year old attacking midfielder Hong Hyun-seok from German Bundesliga side Mainz 05 on a one-year loan deal.

Hong Hyun-seok arrived in European football at the age of 18, playing for SpVgg Unterhaching in the German 3. Bundesliga. Since then, his career has taken him to several European clubs, including LASK Linz, KAA Gent, FC Nantes, and most recently, Mainz 05.

Now, a new chapter awaits in Denmark, and Sporting Director Kristian Bach Bak is delighted with the signing.

"Hong brings extensive international experience. On the pitch, he is a player capable of filling various attacking roles. He has a high work rate, is technically gifted, and can contribute both intensity and creativity to our game," says Bach Bak, adding:

"At the same time, he is humble and hardworking—qualities we value highly. We also know from Cho and Lee that he is a great person who aligns with the values ​​we hold at FC Midtjylland."

At the international level, Hong Hyun-seok has earned 16 caps for South Korea's senior national team. Additionally, he won the Asian Games with his country in 2023, scoring three goals in the process. In European football, he has made 25 appearances in the Conference League, among other competitions.
