The former Danish national team player has signed a short-term agreement until the end of the season with the reigning Danish champions, says FC Copenhagen on their website.
"We currently lack a player in central defense - both specifically for the two upcoming games and for the rest of the season, so we are best equipped to ensure that FC Copenhagen qualifies for European football for the coming season", says head coach Jacob Neestrup.
Junnosuke Suzuki was unfit for action on Saturday against OB and may be unfit again, and Pantelis Hatzidiakos must serve a suspension against Randers, where FC Copenhagen desperately need a win not to miss out on the Championship playoffs.
Munashe Garananga is on loan, while Gabriel Pereira is available in central defence.
35-year-old Mathias "Zanka" Jorgensen has played no less than 303 matches for the Danish champions, where he made his debut in 2007.
"I have joined the club with respect for the current situation, and I have a strong belief that together we can lift the team", says the defender.
"I have seen from a distance the quality and potential in the squad and will do everything to bring it back into play. It will be a great honor to help the club that has given me so much out of the current situation."
The defender was most recently in the United States playing for the MLS club LA Galaxy. However, the parties canceled the agreement at the beginning of February, and since then, he has been without a club.
