Football Australia has landed not one but two friendlies against the South American powerhouses on home soil later this year.

With financial backing from the Queensland state government's tourism fund, Townsville's Queensland Country Bank Stadium and Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium have been selected to host the two friendlies during the September international window.

Brazil last visited Australia in 2017 when playing friendlies against both the Socceroos and Argentina at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, defeating Australia 4-0.

Four members of the Socceroos' 2026 World Cup squad - Aziz Behich, Ajdin Hrustic, Jackson Irvine and Mathew Leckie - took to the pitch in that game nearly a decade ago, with legendary striker Tim Cahill fronting the side.

Since Australia won third place at the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup with a shock 1-0 victory over Brazil, the South Americans have scored 12 unanswered goals across three games, with the last competitive meeting taking place at the 2006 World Cup in Germany (2-0 to Brazil).

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli was understandably delighted to announce the series, 24 hours after Brisbane secured three ANZAC Day Bledisloe Cup matches between the Wallabies and All Blacks

"Traditionally these games after a World Cup happen in Sydney or Melbourne, and we're making a push to be the events capital of the country and things like this make a really big difference," Crisafulli told ABC Radio in Brisbane on Monday as the state looks to build momentum ahead of the 2032 Summer Olympics.

Tickets go on sale to the public on Wednesday July 1, with both matches to be broadcast on Channel Ten and the Paramount+ streaming service.

Australia are currently preparing for their World Cup Round of 32 game against Egypt, whilst Brazil face Japan in the second match of the round.
