Denzel Dumfries was already forced to miss Friday's 1-1 qualifying draw in Poland with fitness issues and has now decided to leave the Dutch camp and return to Inter. The KNVB did not clarify the nature of Dumfries' injury.
During the draw in Poland, Dumfries was replaced by Sunderland's Lutsharel Geertruida. After his disappointing outing, however, it's not clear who Ronald Koeman will play at right-back against Lithuania.
Dumfries is the third Netherlands international to withdraw from the squad this week after Ajax's Wout Weghorst (injury) and Burnley's Quilindschy Hartman (ill) dropped out earlier.
The Netherlands can qualify for next year's FIFA World Cup with as little as a draw from Monday's meeting with Lithuania in the Johan Cruyff ArenA. The Dutch lead Poland by three points but boast a far superior goal difference of +19, compared to Poland's +6.
