The match, confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), is the latest in a series of warm-up fixtures designed to sharpen the squad ahead of the tournament, which runs from June 11th to July 19th, 2026, across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The friendly against Mexico, a co-host nation and one of the favourites in the global event, will be played in Mexico at a venue yet to be announced.
It marks the third confirmed warm-up match for head coach Otto Addo’s side, following scheduled friendlies against Austria and Germany during the March 2026 FIFA International window.
Ghana’s squad for the Mexico match will feature a combination of domestic stars, players based in top European leagues, and standout U-23 talents who are also involved in Olympic qualifiers as Addo aims to expand his pool of talent ahead of the World Cup and beyond.
For the Black Stars, the friendly against Mexico is more than a tune-up as it also offers a valuable tactical test against strong opposition in similar conditions to what they will face in the tournament.
Ghana, drawn into Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia, will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17th in Toronto.
Mexico, meanwhile, will use the match as part of its own World Cup preparations, with El Tri also scheduled to play friendlies against other competitive sides in the lead-up to their opening game against South Africa in the tournament’s official kickoff on June 11th in Mexico City.
Ghana and Mexico last faced off in a friendly in 2023 in the USA, where the Black Stars lost 2-0.
Addo will hope his side can go a step further at the 2026 World Cup by going past the group stages.
