This is no longer just a war of words in press conferences between Hansi Flick and Luis de la Fuente. It has become almost a matter of state, a breach of trust. The result is that, once again, Lamine Yamal will not be available to De la Fuente.
Barcelona, without informing the RFEF medical staff and fully aware that the player was due to join the Spanish national team, subjected him to a medical procedure that requires at least a week of rest. The Federation only found out about this a few hours before the national team’s training camp began in Las Rozas.
As a result of this medical advice, the left winger, who arrived on time for the call-up, has had to be withdrawn and will not be available for either of the two matches, against Georgia or Turkey, both of which count towards qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
Statement from the Spanish Football Federation
"The RFEF Medical Services wish to express their surprise and concern after learning at 13:47 on Monday, November 10, the day the official training camp with the national team began, that player Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure to treat his pubic discomfort that same morning.
"This procedure was carried out without prior communication to the national team’s medical staff, who only learned the details through a report received at 22:40 last night, which recommended a rest period of 7 to 10 days.
"Given this situation, and always prioritising the player’s health, safety, and well-being, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has decided to release the athlete from the current call-up.
"We hope for a positive recovery and wish him a speedy and complete return to health."
