A multitude of unforced errors caused Clara Tauson to crash out in the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament Qatar Open as she lost to the Czech doubles specialist Katerina Siniakova 6-4, 6-1.

Clara Tauson has not reached the level that will get her into the top 10 in the world rankings in the early part of the season.

An injury destroyed her preparations for the Australian Open, where she lost in the third round to Canadian teenage sensation Victoria Mboko. And last week she lost in the semi-final of the WTA 500 tournament, Abu Dhabi Open, to qualifier Sara Bejlek.

During Monday's first round match, she never settled into her stride.

The first set turned into a style study in how not to hold serve. Fortunately, both Tauson and Siniakova held serve in their first attempt, but the next five service games ended in service breaks.

Siniakova, who has won all the Grand Slam tournaments as well as the Olympic tournament in doubles, worked hard for her points and took the decisive break to make it 5-3.

Clara Tauson made too many unforced errors and was clearly getting more and more frustrated. And when Katerina Siniakova clinched the set on her fifth set point, the Dane threw her racquet on the court.

Tauson's struggles continued in the second set as she lost her serve straight away, and when Siniakova broke her again to make it 4-1, the match was virtually over.

Clara Tauson was overmatched against the World No 44, crashed out of the Qatar Open, and must return to the practice court.
