Holger Rune is facing a difficult draw if he is to live up the succes he has had over the past two years at the ATP 1000 tournament in Monte-Carlo where he has reached the final and a place in the quarter-final.

Rune is seeded 10th in the tournament and is set to start his campaign against the Portuguese Nuno Borges. It seems potentially like a fairly easy day at the office for Rune who has won both of their previous two encounters.

In the second round, the Dane, who recorded his best result of the year, when he reached the final in the prestigious Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, will meet Pedro Martinez or Lorenzo Sonego.

Sonego has lost all three matches to Rune, but Martinez could spell trouble for Rune who lost to the Spaniard in Rotterdam where the Danish world No 12 was, however, hampered by a virus.

In the third round, Rune could face the defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Greek contender has had a bit of a rollercoaster-season until now but has lifted the trophy in Monte-Carlo three times. Rune has, however, won all of their previous four meetings and also claimed the honors when the two of them met in the round of 16 in Indian Wells.

Should Rune reach the quarter-finals, he will face Alexander Zverev, who is topseeded in the tournament. Possible opponents in the semifinal could be Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev (9) or Alex de Minaur (8) while a possible final could be against Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud (4), Jack Draper (5), Andrey Rublev (7) or Arthur Fils.
