Suzan Lamens made it through to the quarter-finals of the Korea Open after beating fifth seed Diana Shnaider in straight sets: 6-4, 6-4.

Lamens, the highest-ranked Dutch women's player, hadn't reached the quarter-finals of a WTA tournament since the Libema Open in her native Netherlands. In Seoul, Lamens eliminated 38-year-old Tatjana Maria in the first round, setting up a meeting with Shnaider.

Against the Russian, Shnaider opened the strongest with a break to go up 3-1. The two would exchange breaks in the following four games, before Lamens dealt the final blow in the ninth game and ended the set with a love game.

The Dutch 26-year-old picked up where she left off and raced to a 4-0 lead in the second set, blazing past Shnaider with surgical precision and a strong service game, which won her 11/15 on first service and 8/16 second service points.

Lamens eased past Shnaider in the final games, finishing off the match on her second match point with a powerful passing shot.

Suzan Lamens will face the Czech 77th-ranked Katerina Siniakova, who disposed of wild card Sohyun Park and Daria Kasatkina in the opening two rounds of the Korea Open.
