The tennis continued in Rome on Saturday, with some heavy hitters starting their campaigns in the Italian capital. Carlos Alcaraz was the main attraction, making a winning debut at the tournament. The day's play was interrupted periodically by rain, however, and a handful of matches, including those of Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Coca Gauff, were all postponed until Sunday.

22:13 CET - They didn't get through all the matches planned on Saturday in Rome, but let's hope the rain eases up on Sunday and we can get through what will be another action-packed day on the men's and women's sides.

19:04 CET - In another utterly sensational blockbuster of a contest which lasted a whopping three hours and 45 minutes, Roberto Carballes Baena (30) defeated Daniel Evans (32) 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-4. Remarkable.

18:34 CET - Veronika Kudermetova (26) is through to the last 16 in Rome after beating Anastasia Potapova (22) 7-5, 3-6, 6-1.

18:14 CET - In other results, Borna Coric (26) played out an absolutely incredible three hour and 34-minute epic against Thiago Monteiro (28), eventually coming out on top 4-6, 7-6(8), 7-6(5).

Jeffrey John Wolf (24) claimed a mighty impressive 6-3, 6-4 win against Hubert Hurkacz (26).

18:09 CET - Beatriz Haddad Maia (26) had to battle during two tight sets to overcome Magda Linette (31) 7-5, 6-4. The match lasted over two hours.

17:59 CET - Carlos Alcaraz's (20) first match in Rome has gone exactly to plan, with the Spaniard having little issue defeating Albert Ramos-Vinolas (35) 6-4, 6-1, despite a slow start.

The victory also means he will regain the world No.1 ranking next week.
