The Rome Masters begins this week, with many players having one last chance to prepare for the French Open which starts later this month. The women's tournament proper gets underway on Tuesday with the men starting on Wednesday. Here on the Tennis Tracker, we will have all the news and reaction from around the world.

23:30 CET - The women's side of the Rome Masters is set to get underway on Tuesday with the likes of Leylah Fernandez (20), Alycia Parks (22) and Shelby Rogers (30) all hitting the clay.

You can take a look at the full women's schedule here.

22:24 CET - If seedings were all that mattered, here's how the men's quarter-finals in Rome will look next week:

Djokovic - Rune

Ruud - Sinner

Rublev - Medvedev

Tsitsipas - Alcaraz

Fortunately, tennis isn't so predictable! Stay tuned all throughout the Italian Open in Rome to see how the top men's and women's seeds fare. There could be a few surprises in store.

15:37 CET - It would take a brave person to bet against Carlos Alcaraz (20) lifting the title in Rome next week and maybe even at Roland Garros later this month, too, such is his current dominance on the circuit.

This year, his record stands at four titles, with 29 wins and two losses. That includes 10 wins and just one loss on hard court with 19 wins and just one loss on clay.

Flashscore's Pablo Gallego dug a little deeper into Spaniard's incredible season - read more on that here.

13:24 CET - It's a pretty quiet day on the ATP and WTA tours as the players get ready for the action in Rome starting this week.

With a few bigs names missing and some huge retirements last year, the tournaments in Italy are yet another chance for the next generation to stake their claim to be considered among the contemporary elite and perhaps, one day, to become legends of the sport like some of the tennis royalty that were spotted at the Miami Grand Prix over the weekend!

9:15 CET - Rafael Nadal (36) pulled out of the Rome Masters as he continues his recovery from injury, but many are now questioning whether he will be ready for the French Open.

Roger Federer (41) said he hopes his great friend and rival will recover in time, and that it would be a "brutal" blow for tennis if the 14-time Roland Garros champion is absent this year.

Read about that story here.

9:06 CET - Carlos Alcaraz (20) is raring to get to Italy to compete in the Rome Masters for the first time in his career and reclaim the world number-one spot from Novak Djokovic (35). The Spaniard is guaranteed to reach the summit again by just showing up in the Italian capital.
