The first round action continues at the Australian Open this Monday, with more title favourites beginning their campaigns for glory in Melbourne.

14:10 CET - The final match of the day has come to a close after five thrilling sets! Alexandre Muller came out on top 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) to disappoint a home crowd behind Australian Alexei Popyrin.

14:40 CET - Fourth seed and former champion Novak Djokovic has also booked his place in the second round with his 100th victory at the Australian Open. The Serbian made light work of Pedro Martinez on his way to a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 thrashing.

13:22 CET - 12th seed Casper Ruud has cruised into the second round of the Australian Open with a commanding 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 victory against Mattia Bellucci.

11:48 CET - Jaume Munar avoided a big upset at the Australian Open, fighting from 5-2 down in the fourth set and saving a match point to win a thriller 3-6, 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-3 against Dalibor Svrcina.

11:25 CET - French qualifier Arthur Gea has just produced a huge upset in Melbourne. In his first-ever Grand Slam appearance, the 21-year-old stunned 17th seed Jiri Lehecka, 7-5, 7-6(1), 7-5, and will now face Stanislas Wawrinka in the second round.

11:19 CET - Iga Swiatek was miles from her best and had to battle from 5-3 down in the first set, but in the end, the Pole dug deep to win 7-6(5), 6-3 against qualifier Yue Yuan. She will need to be better if she wants to complete the Career Grand Slam this fortnight.

Diana Shnaider has also found her way through to the second round with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova.

11:10 CET - Mirra Andreeva was given a big scare from the dangerous Donna Vekic in the first set of their encounter, but the superb 18-year-old showed her class to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 and move through to the second round at the Australian Open.

Meanwhile, Shanghai Masters champion Valentin Vacherot has claimed his first-ever main draw win at a Grand Slam, defeating qualifier Martin Damm, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

10:17 CET - Australian wildcard Rinky Hijikata has thrilled the home fans with a superb victory over Adrian Mannarino, winning convincingly 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 in just under two hours.

09:45 CET - Botic van de Zandschulp has upset 27th seed Brandon Nakashima, defeating the American 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(1), 7-6(3) to move through in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov and home favourite Ajla Tomljanovic both moved through to the second round.

09:14 CET - Paula Badosa is the next player to ease into the second round at the Australian Open, swatting aside wildcard Zarina Diyas, 6-2, 6-4.

08:43 CET - The remarkable Stanislas Wawrinka, at 40 years of age and playing in his final Australian Open, has claimed a brilliant 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4) win over Laslo Djere, showcasing why he is a three-time Grand Slam champion. He will firmly have the crowd behind him this week.

08:17 CET - Coming off the back of reaching the Adelaide final, 19-year-old Victoria Mboko has cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Emerson Jones at the Australian Open.

08:00 CET - Marin Cilic, Linda Noskova and Iva Jovic have all got their Australian Open campaigns underway with very little issue, clinching straight-set wins to move into the second round.

Let's catch you up with some of the results overnight before we look ahead to the rest of the day. Daniil Medvedev, Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, Tommy Paul, Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev and Karolina Muchova all progressed comfortably into the second round.

However, there was no such luck for Felix Auger-Aliassime and Emma Navarro. The former was forced to retire from his match with Nuno Borges due to cramp, while the latter suffered a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 defeat to Magda Linette.

Former Grand Slam champions Stanislas Wawrinka and Marin Cilic are currently on court, as well as young starlets Victoria Mboko and Iva Jovic.

The night session begins at 09:00 CET, with world number two Iga Swiatek beginning her quest to complete the Career Grand Slam against qualifier Yue Yuan on Rod Laver Arena, followed by the greatest men's player of all time, Novak Djokovic. The 24-time Grand Slam champion gets his campaign off and running against Spaniard Pedro Martinez.

On Margaret Court Arena, 18-year-old Mirra Andreeva has a potentially tricky clash with Donna Vekic, before 12th seed Casper Ruud takes on Mattia Bellucci.
