In the men's singles yesterday, Australian Thompson had to retire in the second set of his match with Taylor Fritz of the United States due to injury.
Thompson was struggling with back pain in the match which saw him lose the first set 6-1 and was trailing 3-0 in the second before calling it quits.
The withdrawal before today's doubles match only came a matter of minutes before the scheduled start of play, suggesting he was giving every chance to the possibility of recovering in time.
But he and Herbert ultimately withdrew, sending Heliovaara and Patten through to the Quarter-finals via a walkover.
Thus far, the reigning champions have only faced local opposition, beating Dan Evans & Henry Searle and Billy Harris & Marcus Willis in straight sets at SW19.
And it will be more British opponents for the number two seeds in the last eight, as they face Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, the same duo who knocked them out in the Semi-finals at Queen's last month.
In fact, with the exception of Willis being partnered with David Stevenson instead of Harris, the Heliovaara and Patten's opponents at Queen's are the exact same as the first six they will take to the court against at Wimbledon.
The match is scheduled for 11:00 BST tomorrow, where the Finn and Brit will look to make their extra rest count.
