Caroline Dolehide had little trouble brushing aside Arantxa Rus in her first-round Wimbledon matchup, beating the Dutch Rus 6-2, 6-2 after 68 minutes.

Rus's second-round appearance at Wimbledon in 2024 was the first time she'd made it out of the first round in SW19 since 2013. Caroline Dolehide was yet to book her first win at Wimbledon, making the first-round matchup between the 94th and 67th-ranked players a rather intriguing one.

American Dolehide made her intentions known early on with a love game break in Rus's first service game. Unable to make a real impression against Dolehide, Rus conceded the first set after 33 minutes with a score of 6-2.

Trying to make up for her disappointing first set, in which Rus reached a first-serve rate of 46 per cent and won just eight of her 21 return points, the Dutch former number 41 of the world stayed in the set for five games. On break point, however, Rus conceded a critical game. Dolehide won the following two games and as the win edged closer for the American, Rus hit three double faults and an unforced error to hand Dolehide the win after 68 minutes.

Dolehide will meet 2024 Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova in the second round.
