A dramatic last-gasp goal from Keinan Davis earned Udinese a battling 1-1 draw at home to SS Lazio in Serie A (SA), extending the Bianconeri’s unbeaten record in H2Hs to four matches (W2, D2).

Having lost five of their eight games across all competitions since the start of November, Kosta Runjaic’s side were fortunate not to fall behind early on against Lazio, as Tijjani Noslin fired a long-range strike narrowly wide.

The hosts gradually grew into the match, and they wasted a couple of presentable chances before the half-hour mark, with Jakub Piotrowski directing a rebound over the bar and Nicolo Zaniolo seeing an effort from range saved by Ivan Provedel.

Determined to get their top-six push back on track, Udinese remained on the front foot as Nicolo Bertola missed the target with a couple of half-chances in the box.

Jurgen Ekkelenkamp soon threatened again for the Bianconeri with a close-range header that flew wide of the post, before at the other end, Noslin saw a solo effort thwarted by solid defending.

Having kept more clean sheets than any other side in SA this season (nine), Lazio looked to up the ante at the start of the second period.

However, clear-cut openings were in short supply, as Matteo Cancellieri and Matías Vecino fired wide with a pair of speculative strikes. The cagey nature of the contest continued into the final 20 minutes, with VAR deciding a handball from Mario Gila in the box wasn’t enough to award the hosts a penalty.

Undeterred, Udinese went in pursuit of a late winning goal, as Davis, Piotrowski, and Zaniolo all missed opportunities in quick succession.

Those proved to be costly, with Lazio taking the lead in the 80th minute when Vecino’s 25-yard strike deflected off Oumar Solet and beyond a helpless Daniele Padelli for the Uruguayan’s first goal of the season.

The Bianconeri tried to rally in the closing stages, and they were duly rewarded in the final minute of stoppage time when Davis curled a sublime finish into the bottom corner from 18 yards to salvage a dramatic point at the death.
