Bologna got their hunt for a top-six finish back underway after they came from behind to beat Verona 3-2 at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi, leaving the Mastini without a win in five matches (D1, L4).

Bologna’s results have damaged their top-six aspirations in recent weeks, with the Rossoblu having failed to win any of their last five Serie A matches.

Despite dominating possession early in this game, they went a goal down after 13 minutes, as Gift Orban finished a swift counterattack with a clinical shot into the bottom-right corner from the edge of the area.

Verona’s lead was brief, as Bologna managed to find an equaliser inside 10 minutes, courtesy of a scintillating strike from Riccardo Orsolini that nestled in the top-left corner.

Vincenzo Italiano’s men gained momentum after levelling the score and soon took the lead. This time, the goal came courtesy of Jens Odgaard, who fired a left-footed strike into the bottom-left corner from just outside the box.

Things only got worse for the home side on the brink of half-time, finding themselves two goals behind after Lorenzo Montipo was beaten from just inside the penalty area, when Santiago Castro let a thunderous strike fly, finding the left side of the goal.

The opening stages of the second half were far less eventful than the first half, as the Rossoblu continued to dominate possession. However, neither side managed to muster a shot in the opening 15 minutes, with Bologna seeming fairly content.

Their two-goal advantage was soon cut in half, though, when, with just under 20 minutes remaining, Remo Frueler turned the ball into his own goal, leading to a tense climax to the game.

Verona seemed to take control after that, and saw a few shots saved by Federico Ravaglia, but ultimately they were unable to find an equaliser and fell to their fourth defeat in their last five matches.

The result leaves the Mastini four points adrift inside the relegation zone, with Paolo Zanetti’s side sitting bottom of the league table. Things look much better for Bologna, though, as they now sit just four points shy of sixth place, however, Como possess a game in hand ahead of their clash with Milan later this evening.
