Much will be expected from co-hosts Canada, and rightly so. This is easily the strongest team in the country's history, and should expect to qualify for the knockout stages. With that said, there is a considerable amount of pressure on them to perform in this tournament, seeing they are one of the hosts. That, combined with the injuries the team have struggled with, could play a factor. Whether those derail their performances remains to be seen.

Canada have enough quality to finish in the top two and progress to the round of 32. They may even go one step farther, but round of 16 is likely the best-case scenario for the Canucks.

A 1-1 draw against Kosovo in the final match of the group stage officially secured their ticket to the 2026 finals.

The team with the most quality in the group, Switzerland will be expected to top the section. A mix of experienced players along with some youngsters, the Nati should be able to make the knockout stages without any hassle. From there, it will be a matter of how far they can go. The round of 16 should not be out of the question, seeing they have gotten there in five of the last six editions. Depending on the draw, a possible appearance in the quarter-finals is not out of the question either.

Qatar made their historic tournament debut on home soil after automatically qualifying as the host nation in 2022. Qatar lost all of their three matches at the tournament. Qatar is currently in 55th place in the FIFA World rankings.
Path to the finals
Qatar qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup by finishing top of Group A in the fourth round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) qualifiers. Qatar officially clinched their ticket to the tournament on October 14th with a dramatic 2-1 home victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
Key player
Akram Afif enters the tournament as Qatar's most decorated player, holding two AFC Player of the Year awards. He won the 2025/26 QFA Best Player award for a record sixth time. Scoring 12 goals during World Cup qualification, making him the top scorer across the AFC qualifiers, he is Qatar's all-time leading goalscorer and serves as the clinical focal point for manager Julen Lopetegui's offense.

Of the four teams in this group, Qatar look the weakest of the lot. Like Canada and Bosnia, they have never advanced from the group stage. They scored just once in the last World Cup - which they hosted - and while their group last time around looked more challenging, there is not much suggesting they will have more success this time around. Even if they end up in third spot, it will be a question of whether it will be enough to get past the group stage.

Bosnia & Herzegovina qualified in dramatic fashion for the 2026 FIFA World Cup through the UEFA play-offs, where they secured historic penalty shootout victories over Wales in the semi-finals and four-time champions Italy in their play-off final.
Key player
Edin Dzeko, who played for the Dragons in their only previous global finals appearance at Brazil 2014 and turned 40 in March, is the focal point and talisman of the team. Dzeko will return to the tournament looking to add to his record tally of 73 goals for the nation. The legendary striker, who currently plays for Schalke 04, is the nation’s all-time leader in both caps (148) and goals (74). He remains the centre of the attack after scoring six goals during their successful qualification campaign.

Returning to the World Cup after a 12-year absence, Bosnia have an interesting group of players, who will certainly challenge for a top-two spot. They did well to get past Wales and Italy on penalties, but will have to step it up in what could prove to be a tricky group. Dzeko's leadership could be key for the Dragons, with him being the sole survivor from the 2014 team. It will be interesting to see how they get on, and whether they can make a run in the tournament.
