After winning their first Premier League game of the season last weekend, Aston Villa look to make it a swift one-two when Burnley come to town.

Match News and Current Form

A bleak start to the season has improved in recent weeks for Aston Villa, who have now won three games in a row. They won 2-0 against Feyenoord in Thursday night UEFA Europa League action, and with this game against Burnley bringing to an end a frantic three-week period in which they’ve played six games, fatigue could play a part in Unai Emery’s team selection here. A 3-1 win against Fulham which stretched their phenomenal home league record to just one defeat in their last 21 such games (W12, D8) was arguably the biggest win within that period, and with a 16-match unbeaten Premier League run against newly-promoted teams in tow (W12, D4), few would bet against them extending that incredible run here.

Although Burnley’s four-point haul after six games isn’t enough to see them outside of the bottom three at this early stage, facing four of the traditional ‘big six’ already offers some mitigation for their current standing. European-competing Aston Villa represent another stern test, which will be something of a concern for a side who’ve lost all three away league games this season and conceded 3+ goals in each. Conceding another three here would incredibly see the Clarets equal their goals against tally from the entirety of their Championship promotion campaign - in Football League history, the earliest into a season a team has conceded as many goals as they had the previous season is seven games by Liverpool in 1894/95.

Head-to-Head History

Villa have won the last two Premier League H2Hs, and could now win three league meetings in a row for the first time since 1900.

Key Players to Watch and Missing Players

Villa’s Ollie Watkins opened his Premier League account for the campaign against Fulham and has been in the thick of the action across six career H2Hs with Burnley (G2, A3, YC2). Jaidon Anthony has been involved in five of Burnley’s six Premier League goals this season (G4, A1), although both his strikes in away games therein came in losing causes.

Villa remain without Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans, while Jadon Sancho and Tyrone Mings also missed the Feyenoord game. Burnley’s Connor Roberts is nearing a return.

Betting Analysis

With momentum now firmly on their side, backing a Villa win seems logical.
