Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair, who assembled the club's first play-off squad since 2006, was named the 2023 NBA Basketball Executive of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday.

McNair received 16 first-place votes and 98 total points in a vote of NBA executives to win the award with Cleveland's Koby Altman second with seven first-place votes and 63 points.

He became the first member of Kings management to capture the award since Geoff Petrie in 1999 and 2001.

McNair, in his third year as the Kings' top basketball decision-maker, hired Mike Brown, the first unanimous winner of the NBA Coach of the Year award.

McNair also brought such key players as Malik Monk, Keegan Murray and Kevin Huerter to the Kings, who went 48-34 and pushed the defending champion Golden State Warriors to seven games before losing in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
