The weekend is back again, meaning the football makes a return after some midweek European action. Keep up to date with all the latest news and results from the world's biggest and best leagues.

Sunday, August 31st

23:45 CET - That's that for the weekend, and for the first part of the 25/26 season of club football, with the international break now bringing it to a halt for the next two weeks.

Before the World Cup qualifiers get underway though, we have the small matter of Deadline Day across Europe's biggest leagues, and you can follow it live with our transfer tracker!

Enjoy what looks set to be an action-packed final day of the window and the international action that follows!

23:33 CET - This has turned out to be an evening of upsets, with Rayo Vallecano halting Barcelona's winning start to the season!

The hosts didn't only claim a 1-1 draw but even pushed for a winner, being the better side for much of a second half in which they had more efforts on goal.

23:11 CET - Barcelona have been pegged back! Francisco Perez has fired in from a corner to level things up!

22:50 CET - Lyon have claimed the most dramatic of wins, taking all three points against Marseille thanks to an 88th-minute own goal from Leonardo Balerdi.

22:37 CET - Udinese beat Inter! In one of the biggest shocks of the weekend, Christian Chivu's side have suffered their first defeat of the season after failing to turn things around in the second half.

In a less surprising result, Lazio have beaten Verona 4-0.

22:24 CET - Barcelona are 45 minutes away from a third win in a row, with a penalty from Lamine Yamal sending them into the break 1-0 up.

22:00 CET - It's a night to remember for Crystal Palace, who have stunned Aston Villa with a 3-0 win that leaves the hosts in the bottom three of the Premier League and still awaiting their first goal of the season.

21:36 CT - An upset is brewing in Milan, with Udinese 2-1 up against Inter at the break thanks to a goal from Arthur Atta.

Things are going much better for Lazio, who lead 3-0, while Lyon and Marseille are level despite the hosts being a man up and beginning to dominate.

21:30 CET - What a goal from Marc Guehi! In what could be his last match for Palace, the Liverpool-linked defender has curled the ball into the far corner from just outside the box to double his side's lead!

21:16 CET - It's been a nightmare start for Marseille, who have gone down to 10 men after 30 minutes with CJ Egan-Riley being sent off.

In Italy, Lazio are leading Verona 2-0 while Inter and Udinese are level through goals from Denzel Dumfries and Keinan Davis.

21:06 CET - Athletic Club have continued their perfect start to the LaLiga season, securing a 2-1 win away to Real Betis.

20:49 CET - Barcelona will tonight be facing Rayo Vallecano, and Hansi Flick has opted to bench defenders Ronald Araujo and Pau Cubarsi.

20:06 CET - Juventus have finally taken the lead in Genoa, with Dusan Vlahovic putting them 1-0 up with just under 20 minutes to go.

19:35 CET - Not much time to draw breath in the Premier League as Aston Villa take on Crystal Palace from 20:00 CET.

The big team news from Villa Park is the absence of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from the matchday squad, with a move to Manchester United looking more likely.

Marc Guehi is also slated for a move ahead of tomorrow's transfer deadline to Liverpool, but he does start for Palace.

Later, Koln and Freiburg meet at 19:30 CET as the hosts look to continue their perfect start. Let's hope we see their manager, Lukas Kwasniok, in the replica shirt again...

18:48 CET - Goal at Anfield? No! Liverpool have the ball in the back of the net through Hugo Ekitike, but Cody Gakpo was offside in the build-up and it's rightly chalked off. No need for VAR there...

18:21 CET - Whilst we wait for the restart at Anfield, we are just a few minutes away from our first two games in Serie A today.

The biggest of the two sees Genoa host Juventus, with the visitors starting their campaign well last weekend, beating Parma 2-0 at home.

22:00 CET - Mallorca silence the Bernabeu! After Real Madrid had a goal disallowed for offside early on, the visitors have struck first through the ever-reliable Vedat Muriqi.

Meanwhile, Toulouse have rallied somewhat against PSG, going into half-time 4-1, getting one back through English centre-back Charlie Cresswell and it nearly got better for the hosts when they were awarded a penalty, but it was missed by Frank Magri. In a turn of events, the penalty was made to be retaken and up stepped Cristian Casseres, who, incredibly, also missed.
