Croatia survived a late desperate push from Iceland when they won 34-33 to win the bronze at the European Championships.

Croatia won the EURO 2026 bronze medals, beating Iceland by a single goal for a second time in the tournament. Iceland somehow managed to get themselves right back into the match after a match where they missed a host of chances, but it wasn't enough in the end.

Ómar Ingi Magnússon was the leading goal scorer with 12 goals from 12 shots, including all 10 of the penalties Iceland won. Tin Lučin was named Player of the Match after nine goals from 13 attempts, all from open play.

During the first half, Croatia appeared to have recovered better from their semi-final loss.

Goalkeeper Matej Mandić provided a string of reflex saves, and Tin Lučin was a constant threat in attack for the 2025 World Championship silver medallists, who built a five-goal advantage before going back to the locker room leading by three.

Despite still being in the game at the break, Iceland could not manage a comeback. Instead, with Lučin still on scoring duties, Croatia pulled further away, taking a maximum advantage of six goals with 10 minutes left to play.

With the ending in sight, Iceland came back within one before Filip Glavaš finally sealed the deal for Croatia, offering them their first medal at the EURO since the silver in 2020.
