Here's what the head coaches of the A-League semi-finalists had to say about their weekend results.

Adelaide United 0-3 Auckland FC

Airton Andrioli (Adelaide United):

"It's a double feeling - a sense of pride in what we have done this year but also the sadness and disappointment of getting so close and not crossing the line. We are here holding our heads up because I think we had a fantastic season.

"Auckland did what they needed to do today. They scored goals at the right moment and we didn't, so congratulations to them.

"We didn't expect (Anselmo) to come off at that point. We didn't want to make that change so early in the game, especially after conceding in the 43rd minute from a corner that we didn't defend as well as we could have. We came back well in the second half and then all of a sudden a penalty that I haven't seen that closely, but I don't want to make any complaints about referees tonight.

"When you go and play against a team like Auckland that defends really well and could drop numbers behind the ball, we had to open up.

"(Referee) Daniel Elder is from Adelaide. I just wonder who appoints a guy from the same town to referee a game like this. I'm not saying he did a bad job, but it's putting him in a difficult situation. Whoever appointed him needs to look into that. If he makes incorrect decisions, which way are we going to see it? I'm not questioning him as a referee, but I'm questioning the way they appoint referees. In any other country in the world, you won't appoint a referee from the same town to a game - for obvious reasons."

Steve Corica (Auckland FC):

"I'm very happy, obviously. We said from the start it was going to be a tough place to come. Everybody wrote us off and everybody performed at a very high level. In a short two-year period we have won a Premiership, been in two semi-finals and now our first opportunity to have a go at the big one.

"I think they were on top in the first 15 minutes until we got used to the pace of the game, and from then on we were all over them. We defended really well, we set up well, and the boys were animals, really. We limited them to one chance and they had to come up with different ideas.

"We had a very big talk this week leading into the game. We knew that everybody wrote us off and that was motivation. We know what we have in this changing room. We've had our fair share of injuries but we showed our depth in the squad tonight with the subs coming on.

"We did well in both boxes and I'm extremely proud of the effort and the performance. We know they're a really good football team but we didn't allow them to play their way and they had to go more direct, which really helped us.

"Playing my old club (Sydney FC) is going to be a little bit emotional."

Newcastle Jets 1-1 Sydney FC

Mark Milligan (Newcastle Jets):

"Of course it's difficult, because ultimately we fell short of a goal. I'm extremely proud of the group. We have asked a lot of them from day one and they have consistently responded. I think you saw tonight the character of the group. It has been a good year with a lot of learning. I think we see how much growth a lot of these players have in them.

"They need to remember this moment. If you want to be a successful team, you need to learn from the biggest lesson, which was tonight.

"I'm not going to sit here and say we deserved more than what we got, because that's our game. If you want something, you have to go and get it, and we fell short tonight.

"We've got another massive season coming up, and that's why it's so important that tonight's feeling remains with them. We want this to be sustainable and want the crowds to keep coming back. That comes down to how we work on and off the park. We know there's a lot to be done moving forward and everybody is committed to making sure this is the norm rather than a flash in the pan."

Patrick Kisnorbo (Sydney FC):

"Full of emotion, but already thinking about next week as we have to prepare quickly. Obviously tonight could have been done in better circumstances but I'm just happy for the players tonight. To concede a goal with a minute and a half to go can break teams, but it didn't. The players showed mental toughness and resilience in high pressure moments.

"Nothing is done yet. I've been showing confidence and belief within the group. Sometimes it's hard to come in and you don't know where the group is at but they have adapted well. I am quite demanding and they have been great in doing that. The belief from the group I'm very happy with.

"I had to take small steps as I couldn't change too much, but over time we started to find our little way. We have been improving the mental aspect of the players which is one of the biggest thing in sport. Week-on-week, day-after-day they have been training hard and showing that.

"We want to play a brand of football but also be hard to beat and I think we have done both aspects of the game."
