Danish international playmaker Christian Eriksen, who was part of Tottenham's glorious period when they reached the Champions League final seven years ago, says that it hurts to see his previous club fighting to avoid relegation, but he still feels the squad has too much quality to go down.

Christian Eriksen was a fundamental part of Tottenham Hotspur's most successful modern era, often referred to as the Pochettino era (approximately 2014-2019).

He was named Tottenham's Player of the Year twice and was voted into the 2017–18 PFA Team of the Year. Between 2013 and 2020, he made 305 appearances, scoring 69 goals and providing 88 assists.

Eriksen, who is today struggling to avoid relegation from the German Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, still follows his former club and says that it has been painful to watch their downfall this season in an interview with Viaplay.

"It hurts to watch from the outside. It's annoying. I hope they make it because a club like Tottenham has to play in the Premier League. That's for sure."

"It will be exciting to see if they can do it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping they do. They're too good to go out, but that's what you say about almost all teams that go out. But player by player, they're too good to get relegated."

Tottenham have 31 points from 33 matches and are currently two points behind West Ham United, who sit just above the relegation zone. While Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers have already been relegated, Spurs are fighting for survival with five games remaining in their season.
