An understrength AS Roma lost further ground on the Champions League qualification positions following a goalless draw with Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara. The result leaves Jose Mourinho's side six points behind rivals Lazio, who occupy the final Champions League spot with only three matches left to play this season.

Unbeaten in their last five matches at home, which has left Bologna on course for another comfortable mid-table Serie A finish, Bologna began the contest assertively.

Victorious in only one of their last four league matches, Roma - missing the likes of Tammy Abraham, Paulo Dybala, and Lorenzo Pellegrini - were forced to be pragmatic in their pursuit of the game’s opener.

The visitors’ first attempt on goal came via Andrea Belotti’s snap-shot in the 25th minute, which Lukasz Skorupski sublimely kept out.

Genuine goalscoring opportunities were a rare sight throughout a scrappy first half, and Nicolas Dominguez had the only other chance to break the deadlock before half-time, forcing an instinctive save from deputising Giallorossi goalkeeper Mile Svilar.

With Champions League qualification via a league position still a realistic aspiration for Roma, Jose Mourinho rolled the dice with a triple alteration in the 54th minute.

It didn’t take substitute Abraham long to involve himself in the action, as the imposing Giallorossi number nine forced Skorupski into a pivotal point-blank save to keep the scoreline goalless.

Similar to the opening 45 minutes, the second half failed to produce any clear-cut opportunities in front of goal, as Skorupski again spectacularly denied Abraham with time running down on the clock.

A share of the spoils brings Bologna to within two points of the top half of the standings.

Meanwhile, Roma's attention now turns to the 2nd leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Thursday evening, with Mourinho’s men possessing a slender 1-0 advantage.
