Sunday’s Ligue 1 action concludes in Lyon as the hosts look to leapfrog Strasbourg in what’s shaping up to be a tight tussle for the top four at this early stage.

Match News and Current Form

After recording a 2-0 victory over Basel in the UEFA Europa League here on Thursday, Lyon must swiftly turn their attention back to league matters, where they’ll attempt to avoid a third straight defeat for the first time since 2023. Those losses were particularly frustrating as Les Gones either led or equalised in both, yet translating European form, where they’ve won three games without reply, to the domestic stage is the aim as they keep up with the early pacesetters. Playing at home should provide a boost in that regard as Lyon have lost just three league games there since the beginning of October 2024 (W13, D2).

Strasbourg had to settle for a 1-1 draw despite dominating against Polish side Jagiellonia in their midweek UEFA Conference League action. Frustration may have been the overarching emotion last weekend too, as they squandered a 3-1 lead to draw against PSG, although Le Racing still sit at least five points better off than at the same stage of their last eight campaigns. Playing away hasn’t affected Strasbourg’s overall form too much as they’ve lost just once on the road this term (W4, D1), although their attack often has to pick up the slack with Liam Rosenior’s side conceding twice per match on average across the last five trips.

Head-to-Head History

These sides shared 13 goals with one win apiece in last season’s league meetings. Strasbourg have lost more Ligue 1 games against Lyon (20) than any other side since the turn of the century, while they’re on a 29-game run without a H2H clean sheet.

Key Players to Watch and Missing Players

Lyon entered the weekend as the only side in Europe’s big-five leagues to have two Czech players score, one of which, Pavel Šulc, scored two of his three league goals beyond the 85th minute. Strasbourg’s Joaquín Panichelli tops the scoring charts in Ligue 1 ahead of the round (G7), with five of those strikes arriving after half-time.

Lyon have no fresh injury concerns, while Emanuel Emegha remains doubtful for Strasbourg.
