Argentine Martin Anselmi (39) has been named as the new head coach of FC Porto, the club announced on Monday. He succeeds the recently sacked Vítor Bruno (42).

Anselmi arrives at FC Porto from Cruz Azul and has signed a contract valid until 2027 with the Dragons.

As Vitor Bruno's successor, Anselmi will be joined by Luis Pastur, Facundo Oreja (assistant coaches), Diego Bottaioli (fitness coach), Dario Herrera and Diogo Almeida (goalkeeping coach).

The new coach was seen at the match against Santa Clara (1-1) at the Estadio do Dragao.

He will take the reins on Thursday in Belgrade against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the final match of the Europa League group stage. The Dragons must win to progress to the playoffs.

Having spent his entire career in South America, Anselmi made a name for himself in Ecuador when he led Independiente del Valle to the Copa del Rey, Super Cup, South American Cup and Recopa Sudamericana, and in 2022 he became the youngest coach ever to win a CONMEBOL continental competition.

He arrived at Cruz Azul in 2024 and revitalised the team, even reaching the final of the Mexican Clausura last May, where they were beaten by Club America.
