After suffering a disappointing 4-1 defeat on Saturday, Nice will try to get back to winning ways in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) against Roma, who prevailed against bitter rivals Lazio the following day.

Match News and Current Form

After losing 4-0 on aggregate to Benfica in UEFA Champions League qualification, Nice are starting their second successive UEL campaign, with the previous one ending prematurely in the league phase after they failed to secure a single victory (D3, L5). Head coach Franck Haise remains winless in each of his ten career UEL matches in the dugout (D4, L6) and their unconvincing start to the new season won't raise his hopes of ending that run here as that 4-1 defeat to Brest at the weekend was their fifth loss in seven competitive games this term (W2), with three of the last four defeats seeing Nice trail at half-time.

Roma are participating in the UEL for the fourth consecutive campaign courtesy of their fifth-placed finish in Serie A last season, after exiting Europe at the last-16 stage - a disappointment having reached at least the semi-finals in the previous two years. New boss Gian Piero Gasperini triumphed in this competition back in the 2023/24 edition with former side Atalanta, but in the immediacy will try to end Roma’s winless UEL away run here (D4, L3). The Giallorossi are fresh off that 1-0 victory over Lazio though, with their four matches this term all having produced the same scoreline (W3, L1).

Head-to-Head History

This will be the first European meeting between these two sides. Roma have lost just two of their previous 11 matches against French clubs (W6, D3), while Nice have lost each of their seven European games against Italian teams.

Hot Stats and Streaks

Nice have scored more than once in just one of their last 11 European matches.

Only one team has found the net in five of Nice’s last six competitive home games.

Five of Roma’s last seven European away matches saw both teams score.

Seven of Roma’s last ten games in all competitions have ended 1-0.

Key Players to Watch and Missing Players

Terem Moffi has already netted twice this season for Nice, but only three of his last seven goalscoring appearances have ended with him on the winning side (D1, L3). Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini got the winner in Sunday’s derby in his first encounter this term - and he has now opened the scoring with six of his last eight goals for club or country.

Nice are still suffering from a significant injury list, but at least have not reported any new casualties, while Roma could still be without both Paulo Dybala and Leon Bailey.

Betting Analysis

Given Roma’s recent tight matches, we could see another fixture with less than 2.5 total goals.
