FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set to join Ajax on loan from the Catalan giants after a full agreement was reached on Friday.

Ter Stegen, 34, has been rumoured to join Ajax since June, when it became known that Ajax's technical director, Jordi Cruyff, set his sights on a senior goalkeeper, with Ter Stegen and former Inter stopper Yann Sommer on the shortlist.

The German goalkeeper is now set to join Ajax on a season-long loan, according to several reliable sources. FC Barcelona will reportedly pay between 75 and 80 per cent of Ter Stegen's annual salary of about €15 million and has negotiated several bonuses into the loan deal, including for appearances and UEFA Champions League qualification.

In Amsterdam, Ter Stegen will be reunited with former Girona manager Michel, who took the Ajax job in June after leaving the Catalan side. Ter Stegen joined Girona on loan in January, but left the club with just two appearances to his name after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury in February.

If Ter Stegen passes the medical exam, the German stopper will join Ajax on a season-long loan deal without an option to buy.

Ter Stegen joined FC Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014 and has made 423 appearances for the Catalan giants. The 34-year-old has won 20 trophies with Barcelona, including 7 Spanish titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy in 2015.
