Home favourite Barbora Krejcikova (26) played some of the best tennis of her career to defeat world number one Iga Swiatek (21) in three sets to win her fifth WTA title in front of a roaring Ostrava crowd 5-7, 7-6, 6-3.

Krejcikova, who won her maiden Grand Slam singles title at the French Open in 2021, has struggled for consistency in 2022 and was facing the most dominant player on tour in Swiatek.

The Czech star had to battle hard against the Pole, losing the first set 7-5 with Swiatek breaking her serve late on to take the lead.

However, cheered on by her home crowd, she battled hard, winning the second set tie-break 7-4.

From there, it was the Krejcikova show and she brought up one of the best wins of her career with a 6-3 triumph in the deciding set.

At the end of the match, both players embraced and shared a moment. Speaking after the match about their meeting at the net, Krejcikova said: "What we said to each other, I think I would keep between us. Iga knows how much I respect her. She's the best player on the circuit right now and I have the utmost respect for her."

She added in her post-match speech: "I'm very happy, maybe it was decided by a single ball, but I'm glad I won it, here in front of my home crowd.

"It's amazing how people came out and cheered for both sides. I think we both enjoyed it, we had an unbelievable match and I'm glad I'm the one who won."

Swiatek was backed by plenty of Polish fans who had come from across the border and both players were impressed by the atmoshpere that had built in Ostrava throughout the week.

Both players will be on the hunt for more ranking points ahead of the WTA finals later in the year, but for now Krejcikova will be heading to her hometown of Brno for some rest and celebrations.
