Murray has pulled out ahead of qualifying at Roland Garros after suffering first-round exits on the clay of Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome.
The Scot did win the Aix-en-Provence Challenger event earlier this month but suffered a 6-3, 6-0 defeat to Stan Wawrinka in tennis' second tier in Bordeaux last week.
"It's not so much about (the physical worries)," Murray told the Guardian after losing to the Swiss.
"I trust that my body will be okay after what I did at the beginning of the year. I played back-to-back five-hour matches and did well physically in those matches. There's no reason why that should necessarily be any different here.
"It was just more to see where my game is at. It’s just what the right thing is to prioritise at this stage in my career. I trust my body now but I'm aware that my best chance of having a deep run is more likely to happen at Wimbledon."
Murray has not played at the French Open since 2020 and has only featured at the Grand Slam event once in the last five years.
He is the latest big-name withdrawal from this men's side following 14-time winner Rafael Nadal, Nick Kyrgios and Matteo Berrettini.
