Finland are through to the second round of the qualification play-offs for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, after beating Serbia 3-1 for the second time in a week, progressing 6-2 on aggregate.

Sanni Franssi's late goal in the first leg allowed Finland to travel to Stara Pazova with some breathing space which allowed the Boreal Owls to start the game full of confidence - just three minutes in, Emma Koivisto broke the deadlock, just as she had done in the first leg.

Needing three goals to get back on terms, Serbia responded well and were given a lifeline before the half-hour mark when Evelina Summanen turned the ball into her own net to level on the night, but the hosts' comeback hopes were severely dented 10 minutes after the break, when Nea Lehtola put the Finns ahead once more.

With the final minutes approaching, Finland wrapped up the 3-1 win on the night and 6-2 success in the tie through Olivia Ulenius, who scored her first international goal on her first start, having made her senior debut off the bench in the first leg.

Finland have now won seven matches in a row, and will face either Italy or Belarus in round two for a place in Brazil, what would be a maiden World Cup for the Finns. Italy lead 2-0 after the first leg, and the tie will be decided later this evening (13th October).
