12:20 CET - Cameron Norrie (27) has suffered a shock defeat in Monte Carlo. The 11th seed and world number 13 was beaten by Francisco Cerundolo (24) 6-3, 6-4

7:11 CET - Daniil Medvedev (27) will head into the Monte Carlo Masters hoping to strike the right balance as the world number four looks to tweak his game for the claycourt swing without compromising on the style that has delivered four titles in 2023.

Medvedev has won 18 of his 19 titles, including the 2021 US Open, on hardcourts, the only exception coming at the Mallorca Open when he triumphed on grass the same year.

He has been in red-hot form this season having triumphed in RotterdamDohaDubai and Miami but the 27-year-old knows clay presents a different challenge for his game.

"I definitely have to change my game because my strokes are too flat and clay doesn't let the ball go through the court as much," Medvedev, who plays Lorenzo Sonego or Ugo Humbert first in the ATP 1000 tournament, said.

7:06 CET - Novak Djokovic (35) said he hopes to hit the ground running at Monte Carlo having begun preparations for the clay season early after the world number one was forced to skip tournaments in the United States last month.

Djokovic, who is unvaccinated against COVID-19, was unable to enter the country after unsuccessfully applying to the US government for special permission to play at Indian Wells and Miami.

The Australian Open champion last competed in early March when he lost in the Dubai semi-finals and said his enforced absence from the Tour helped him focus on Monte Carlo, where he lost in the second round last year.

"I've done more training on clay, which is positive if you think about the clay season," said Djokovic, the 2013 and 2015 champion who meets Mackenzie McDonald or a qualifier first.

6:55 CET - Ons Jabeur has set her sights on capturing a first Grand Slam title this year after the world number four beat Belinda Bencic (26) 7-6(6) 6-4 at the Charleston Open on Sunday to win her first trophy of the season.

Jabeur came up short in two major finals in 2022, losing to Elena Rybakina (23) at Wimbledon and Iga Swiatek (21) at the US Open, but the Tunisian is rediscovering her best form again this year after minor knee surgery in February.

Victory against holder Bencic was Jabeur's 38th on clay since the start of the 2020 season - the most by any women's player in that period - and makes the 28-year-old a strong contender for the French Open starting next month.

"I'm glad that I'm finding my rhythm and I hope my body will allow me to play," Jabeur told Tennis Channel, looking ahead to the European claycourt swing
