Brondby IF on Monday night recaptured top spot in the Danish Superliga when they beat Sonderjyske at home 3-2 in a match where they nearly squandered a 3-0 lead.

A golden first half put Brondby in a commanding 3-0 position, but Sonderjyske fought back, injecting suspense into the match on the outskirts of Copenhagen.

Despite looking shakier after the break, Brondby ultimately secured a 3-2 victory at home against the visitors from Southern Jutland in the fourth round of the Superliga.

While the match ended on an encouraging note for Sonderjyske, it does not alter the fact that the club has had a poor start to the season. With zero wins and just one point, the team sits at the bottom of the table.

Conversely, Brondby currently tops the Superliga with ten points from four rounds, though their closest rivals, FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland, have each played one game less.

The visitors from Southern Jutland got off to a strong start and nearly caught Brondby off guard in the opening minutes.

The visitors easily created big chances, but the momentum was short-lived; Brondby took control of the game and went ahead just past the fifteen-minute mark.

After a few quick passing combinations, the ball fell to Mads Frokjaer, who confidently slotted the opening goal low into the net. From that point on, it became a battle for survival for Sonderjyske, but the mission failed.

Ten minutes later, the ball was in the net again, and once more, Mads Frokjaer was the architect behind the goal. An unmarked Frokjaer brilliantly doubled the lead from the edge of the box with a finish into the far corner.

A disastrous half was capped off for the visitors when Olti Hyseni made it 3–0 shortly before the break, when the Sonderjyske goalkeeper, Marcus Bundgaard, did not look his best.

However, almost out of the blue, Sonderjyske pulled a goal back just before the hour mark through a header by Bubacarr Tambedou. Suddenly, the visitors breathed new life into the match.

The tension mounted further a few minutes later when Mohamed Cherif scored to make it 2–3 as the Brondby defense stood by quite passively.

The hosts had run out of steam in attack, but Sonderjyske never really came close to completing the comeback at Brondby Stadion in the closing stages.
