The Danish women's national football team played out a 1–1 draw against Canada in the early hours of Saturday (Danish time) in a friendly match ahead of next year's World Cup finals in Brazil.

The official result of the match was 1–1. However, prior to the game in Montreal, Canada, it had been decided that the match would proceed to a penalty shootout in the event of a draw, in order to test spot-kicks.

Canada won the shootout 4–2 after Janni Thomsen hit the post and Mille Gejl sent the ball well over the bar.

The Danish women made the better start to the match. Despite Canadian dominance in possession, Pernille Harder put Denmark ahead after 24 minutes following a fine counter-attack and an assist from Amalie Vangsgaard.

Less than ten minutes later, Canada came very close to equalizing, but Jessie Fleming blasted the ball just over the Danish crossbar.

Head coach Jakob Michelsen substituted ten Danish players after the break, giving playing time to several debutants in the friendly match. Canada also tested a number of players in the second half.

Canada held the majority of possession throughout the match and applied sustained pressure in search of a goal.

After 84 minutes, the Danish defense finally broke down, and Arsenal player Olivia Smith found the net with her left foot.
