Manchester United’s interest in Newcastle United full-back Lewis Hall is believed to be genuine, as the club continue to evaluate the possibility of signing a new left-back during the summer transfer window.

Sources close to the situation insist that United have not yet made a final decision on whether reinforcing the position will become a priority, but Hall is firmly among the leading candidates being discussed internally should the club move forward with plans to recruit in that area.

It is understood that Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown is also admired by figures within the recruitment department.

Hall has been highly rated at Old Trafford for some time, with United recruitment staff impressed by his technical quality and maturity.

The 21-year-old has developed impressively since joining Newcastle and is viewed as one of the most promising young left-backs in English football, with Chelsea also linked recently.

United are currently assessing how to solve the long-term uncertainty surrounding the position, and how to replace Luke Shaw’s role at the club. Much will depend on the view of Patrick Dorgu's best fit for next season.

Hall’s profile is considered particularly attractive because of his balance between defensive reliability and attacking contribution.

Sources say United value his ability to progress the ball, support attacking phases and remain disciplined defensively, making him a strong fit for the tactical demands expected.

At this stage, there has been no formal approach and United are still working through internal recruitment discussions before determining how aggressively they will pursue the situation.

As a result, the club do not yet have a full understanding of how realistic a deal may be or what Newcastle’s stance would ultimately be if interest developed further. Given they are already prepared for a battle to hold onto Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento, it could become difficult.

However, there is belief that an approach for Hall could become possible in the summer if United decide to actively pursue a left-back.

Some sources also feel that an intriguing offer and the opportunity to become part of United’s rebuild could potentially make the situation one to watch.

Although left-back may not be the most high-profile issue facing the club ahead of the new season, it is an area receiving serious consideration behind the scenes as United prepare for what is expected to be a busy and important summer transfer window.
